A joint initiative between BIMA and Islamic Relief UK has been featured by the BBC, highlighting efforts to install defibrillators at mosques across the UK.

The project led to the installation of 57 publicly accessible defibrillators, helping improve emergency response to cardiac arrests within local communities. Alongside the equipment, more than 300 mosque staff and volunteers have also received CPR and emergency response training.

Speaking as part of the feature, Dr Khanji highlighted the importance of early intervention during cardiac arrest, including calling 999, starting CPR immediately, and using the nearest defibrillator as directed by ambulance services.

Importantly, the defibrillators have been installed outside mosques to ensure they remain accessible to the wider public, reflecting a shared commitment to community service and public health.

The initiative also forms part of BIMA’s wider work around cardiovascular health awareness and emergency lifesaving education, including the national Lifesavers programme delivered annually in mosques and community spaces across the UK.
