BIMA is pleased to have contributed to the British Medical Association’s new guidance, Faith inclusivity for medical students: guidance for students and calls for action. The guidance sets out the support medical students of faith should expect from medical schools and clinical placement providers, covering areas including religious dress, prayer, Ramadan, timetabling, gender considerations in clinical skills, discrimination and wellbeing.
BIMA provided expertise and feedback during the development of the guidance. It also signposts BIMA resources on wearing the hijab in medical settings and gender considerations in clinical skills training, our joint BMA/BIMA Ramadan webinar, and BIMA’s support for members.
We welcome this important step towards ensuring that medical students can practise their faith without facing unnecessary barriers in their education and training.
