An Islamophobic hate incident took place at Leeds Teaching Hospitals, where a copy of the Qur’an was desecrated on NHS premises. This is part of a pattern of attacks on Muslim staff and patients.

BIMA has written to DHSC, NHSE and Leeds Teaching Hospitals raising our concerns, demanding appropriate actions.

Prior to this incident BIMA already raised concerns with DHSC about Islamophobia, staff safety, and the hierarchy of racism, but we have still not received a response. Silence at a time like this is not acceptable. Islamophobia must be taken as seriously as all other forms of racism.
