Dear [mp_name], Re: Terminally Ill Adults (End of Life) Bill – Second Reading, Friday 11 September 2026 I am writing as one of your constituents and as a healthcare professional to urge you to vote against the Terminally Ill Adults (End of Life) Bill at its Second Reading on 11 September 2026. I do not believe it contains sufficient safeguards to protect vulnerable patients or the healthcare professionals responsible for implementing it. I am particularly concerned about the risk of subtle coercion. Patients facing serious illness may feel they have become a burden to their families or to an already overstretched health and care system. Before introducing assisted dying, Parliament should ensure that everyone has equitable access to high-quality palliative care, pain management, psychological support and social care so that choices at the end of life are genuinely free. I am also concerned that the Bill does not adequately address the needs of communities that already experience inequalities in healthcare, including ethnic minority communities, nor does it provide sufficient parliamentary scrutiny over key safeguards that would be left to future regulations. This is a significant change to the relationship between patients and healthcare professionals. I do not believe the current Bill provides the protections that vulnerable people deserve.
