Book NowStarting FY1 can feel exciting, daunting, and everything in between. ACE FY1 2026 is a one-day interactive course designed to help final-year medical students transition confidently into their first year as a doctor.
Join us for a dynamic programme featuring practical talks on life as an FY1, portfolio building, finances, wellbeing, and spirituality, delivered by doctors who have recently navigated the same journey. In the afternoon, attendees joining in person will take part in hands-on workshops covering A–E assessment and SBAR communication, bleep prioritisation, and our popular bleep simulation sessions using realistic on-call scenarios.
Whether you’re worried about your first ward round, your first on-call shift, or simply want advice from those who’ve been there, this course will equip you with the knowledge, confidence, and skills to hit the ground running from day one.
Please note: Afternoon workshop places are limited to 30 participants and are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.

What is ACE FY1?Â
ACE FY1 is a one-day masterclass designed to prepare you for life as an FY1 come August 2026. It is designed to cover key aspects of life as an FY1, the day job as well as the on-call shifts through various talks and interactive workshops including our popular bleep simulation!
Who are we?Â
We are a team of BIMA volunteers at various stages of our medical training who have all been through that transition to FY1 and have come together to curate a day that we hope will be both enjoyable and informative for you.
Who is the course for?Â
Final year medical students/ graduated doctors who are starting an FY1 job in August 2026.
Why are we doing this?Â
We know how daunting the transition to FY1 can be so this day is a way to ease your worries, network with other professionals, ask questions and also get to know more about BIMA!
Where is it being held?
The venue this year will be Garrod Building, Barts and the London School of Medicine and Dentistry, Turner Street, Whitechapel, E1 2AD
How do I get to the venue?
The venue is a 5-min walk from Whitechapel Station (Windrush line, Elizabeth line, Hammersmith and City line). You can also get a 10-min bus from Mile End station (Central line). You can also drive to the venue, but there is very limited parking on nearby side streets.
What is the layout of the day?Â
The day is split into a morning and afternoon session with a number of informative talks lined up for the morning session and workshops including bleep simulation due to take place in the afternoon. The day will close with a final talk and a surprise from us!
Will there be prayer facilities?Â
Prayer facilities are available on-site and dedicated time set aside for prayer and lunch.
Does the event include food?
Yes – the event includes free lunch for all.
Will I receive a certificate for my attendance?Â
You will receive a certificate of attendance after the event. Please ensure you register on the day in order for this to be sent to you as well as your deposit to be returned to you.
