Birmingham, UK – 14 December 2025 — The British Muslim Health Awards — the first national celebration of Muslim professionals in the UK health and care sector — made a powerful debut on Saturday, 13 December 2025, at the Quaid-e-Azam Grand Ballroom in Birmingham. The event brought together healthcare professionals from across disciplines to recognise excellence, compassion, leadership, and service to patients and communities.
Organised by the British Islamic Medical Association (BIMA), the Awards were designed to showcase the outstanding contributions of Muslim health and care professionals, celebrating everything from patient care, clinical achievement to community leadership across more than 25 diverse award categories.
The gala event featured keynote speakers and strategic networking, alongside the awards presentation and a formal dinner. Attendees praised the event’s inclusive spirit and community focus, noting the importance of recognising those whose dedication often goes unseen.
Highlights of the evening included deeply moving acceptance speeches from award recipients.
- Doctor of the Year: Dr Fatima Hussain, leader in fertility medicine, who dedicated her award to her mother, who passed away just weeks before the ceremony.
- Health Manager: Ayisha Saleemi, pharmacist and the first Muslim woman boxing sports correspondent, who expressed deep honour at being recognised by her own community.
- Public Health Award: Dr Sakinat Tope Baiyewu, Head of Health and Wellbeing Department (CAHN), Leeds Beckett University, whose family travelled from around the world to share in her achievement.
- Digital Health Award: Dr Haroon Shah, GP registrar, who acknowledged his family’s support throughout his journey, marking an exceptional achievement at a remarkably young age.
