Find out about our Teams

We’re looking forward to welcoming new volunteers across BIMA. We have a diverse range of projects and campaigns with our activity following four themes: Community, Education & Wellbeing, Research and Development and Operations.

Community Objectives 2023

These objectives are published to provide insight and guidance on what teams will be working on for 2023, however, new volunteers are welcome to suggest ideas and refine these over the year.

Lifesavers

1. Run the annual lifesavers campaign
2. Increase the reach of participating mosques in the UK
3. Train and develop team members to confidently deliver the lifesavers campaign Find out more: Lifesavers

Mental Health

1. Plan mental health first aid
2. Deliver a pilot event in the community for mental health first aid
3. Social media infographic or podcast for world mental health day (oct) or mental health awareness day (9th May)
4. Continue  developing relationships with external stakeholders

Blood and Organ Donation

1. To roll out the OD film & leaflet focusing on local community organisations/Masjids.
2. To have three events Scotland, Wales, Sheffield/Bradford to premiere the film.
3. Stem cell donation awareness
4. Plan Blood donation campaign

Cancer

1. Update cancer screening resources for social media campaign: breast, cervical and bowel
2. Engage with stakeholder campaigns
3. Revisit the plan for the cancer screening events in the local community, run a pilot for breast or gynae-related cancer

End of Life

1. Create an infographic for national bereavement week that can be shared on social media and with our community network.
2. Continue working with stakeholders and representing BIMA.
3. Write an opinion piece for jBIMA regarding the work of End of Life team

Healthy Ramadan

1. Promote the Ramadan compendium (social media campaign)
2. Work on an online webinar targeted at HCP management of patients during Ramadan (end of 2023)

Operations Objectives 2023

These objectives are published to provide insight and guidance on what teams will be working on for 2023, however, new volunteers are welcome to suggest ideas and refine these over the year.

Finance

1. Manage requests from BIMA projects for funding
2. Support grants, bids and proposals

Public Relations

1. Organise Media training for team members (coordinate with an external provider)
2. Network with the rest of team BIMA to represent our work
3. Keep up to date with current affairs and release press statements under the guidance of the council
4. Filter media opportunities and relevant stakeholders to the relevant team

Communications

1. Establish high-quality monthly Newsletter

2. Increase social media engagements esp Twitter & Instagram

3. Create a database of social handles of stakeholders

4.  Make social media pages more interesting – strategize posts/design with each teams comms rep

Conference

1. Organise logistics and content of the summer conference
2. Organise a volunteer dinner following the conference
3. Collaborate with the rest of BIMA about showcasing their work at the conference

Education & Wellbeing Objectives 2023

These objectives are published to provide insight and guidance on what teams will be working on for 2023, however, new volunteers are welcome to suggest ideas and refine these over the year.

Student BIMA

1. Continue building on our national network and  5 projects: mentorship, toolkits (freshers and electives guide), grassroots (outreach work with societies), development series and research study.

People

1. Develop 1 resource for the team on delivering an effective reminder e.g 5 top tips
2. Organise a volunteer survey/listening exercise mid year and report the results back to exco
3. Contribute to leadership & management series on a topic of their choice

ACE (Careers Induction)

1. Deliver induction events FY1 DFT and pre reg pharmacist including one F2F event
2. Plan a career series

Womens

1. Week of social media campaigning to raise awareness about the national dress code policy and encourage more local hospitals and universities to update local policy
2. 4 part webinar/networking series for Womans with 1/4 being the work of BIMA HBBE

IMG (International Medical Graduates)

1. Deliver an IMG induction
2. Continue external stakeholder relationships

Research & Development Objectives 2023

These objectives are published to provide insight and guidance on what teams will be working on for 2023, however, new volunteers are welcome to suggest ideas and refine these over the year.

JBIMA (Journal)

1. Continue 3 issues of the journal
2. Associate with FIMA to deliver History of Islamic Medicine webinars
3. Create a wider social media presence twitter/instagram/facebook
4. Further goal of Indexing journal e.g. google scholar JSTOR

Ethics

1. Build on the strong representation of Islamic medical ethics.
2. Contributing and responding to concerns from external organisations seeking clarity on clinical matters from an Islamic perspective.
3. Every team member is provided with the skills and training to contribute to academic research via JBIMA, BIMA blog posts, or a compendium.
4. Identify ethical clinical matters in the UK that affect HCPs and patients when making decisions on clinical matters.
