About Our Islamophobia Awareness Training

Enhance your team’s understanding of Islamophobia, Islam, and Muslim communities with a BIMA training session.

The British Islamic Medical Association (BIMA) is offering tailored training on Islamophobia, Islam and Muslims, designed specifically for healthcare professionals across the UK.

Tailored to Your Needs

Our workshops are highly flexible and can be tailored to meet the specific needs of your organisation, whether you’re based in England, Scotland, Wales, or Northern Ireland. We aim to provide your team with the knowledge and skills necessary to deliver compassionate and culturally competent care to Muslim patients, support for Muslim staff and a greater awareness of Islamophobia. We have a range of training options ranging from a short 1 hour overview or a full day, interactive workshop. Sessions may be delivered in-person or online.

What Our Workshops Can Cover:

Discover the rich and diverse history of Muslims across the UK, from their early presence to the present day.

Gain a deeper understanding of the core beliefs of Islam, along with important cultural and religious considerations that can impact patient care and staff support.

Learn about the realities of Islamophobia, its impact on both healthcare providers and patients, and strategies to counteract it within your organisation.

Training Format

Islamophobia remains one of the least recognised yet most pervasive forms of discrimination in the UK. In healthcare, it directly affects staff retention, wellbeing, patient safety, and institutional trust. Despite Muslim staff making up a significant portion of the NHS workforce, they continue to face disproportionately high levels of discrimination, stereotyping, and institutional barriers.

BIMA’s Islamophobia training is designed to support healthcare teams in creating inclusive, respectful, and safe workplaces. Our sessions explore the realities of Islamophobia, practical ways to address bias, and how to uphold ethical professional standards while supporting staff wellbeing. Training can be delivered online or in person, and is flexible to fit your needs,  from focused one-hour briefings to half-day interactive workshops. Each session draws on real-world examples and evidence, offering practical guidance to help staff feel confident, valued, and able to provide the best possible care for patients.

Our Impact

BIMA’s Islamophobia training is informed by peer-reviewed research, ongoing evidence, and the real-world experiences of healthcare professionals. Our sessions help staff recognise, address, and prevent Islamophobia in the workplace, and our evidence shows they significantly improve participants’ confidence in doing so.
