Welcome to the London Muslim Health Network (LMHN)!

The London Muslim Health Network, established in early 2022. It unites health professionals from Muslim faith communities to tackle health disparities in the capital. Led by co-chairs Dr Hadjer Nacer and Dr Salman Waqar, along with support from the Legacy and Health Equity Partnership (LHEP) team, this interdisciplinary group focuses on addressing various health concerns.

Initially concentrating on promoting health protection measures during the Covid pandemic, the network has since expanded its efforts to encompass health inequality and inequity issues that affect Muslim Londoners like hypertension, cancer, and diabetes.

By emphasising community-led health initiatives and tailored communications, the network collaborates with diverse health professionals, community organisations, and broader health partners to advance health awareness and wellbeing within London’s diverse Muslim communities.

LMHN Aims To…

LMHN intends to create long-term, sustainable health changes for the Muslim community by creating partnerships among local authorities, healthcare professionals, community and faith organisations, and religious leaders.

Our Vision

  • Empower communities: Provide culturally sensitive health education and resources.
  • Collaborate effectively: Build partnerships between healthcare providers and grassroots organisations.

Past work

  1. Delivering a health and wellbeing stand at Eid in the Square for two years: Health and wellbeing stands serve as an opportunistic approach to engage both individuals and communities on health priorities that are meaningful to them. Previous similar interventions have shown that people highly value having a health presence at community events. It provides them with access to vital care services such as blood pressure checks and facilitates conversations with healthcare professionals. The stand at Eid in the Square was led by the London Muslim Health Network, bolstered by support from regional and local health partners as well as dedicated volunteers, many of whom hailed from Muslim faith communities and were proficient in various community languages. This marked the network’s second consecutive year hosting a stand at Eid in the Square, with insights and lessons from the prior year instrumental in enhancing the stand’s design and delivery.
  2. Health engagement stand at the World Halal Food festival :The London Halal Food Festival emerged as an ideal platform to connect with London’s Muslim population regarding health-related matters. With thousands of attendees from across the UK and extensive publicity, it presented a prime opportunity.this stall,
  3. Community health day in Mosque – We organized a community health day at Quwat tul Islam in East Ham, successfully engaging with nearly a hundred locals by providing health checks and offering wellbeing advice. The event received support from the local authority, which included wellbeing advisers showcasing various initiatives available in the area. Moreover, we facilitated referrals to the local pharmacy for flu and COVID vaccinations, enhancing access to essential immunizations for the community.
