About this advice
Bladder cancer is the 11th most common cancer in the UK and most commonly affects the lining of the bladder. While it can affect anyone, it is more common in older adults and is strongly associated with smoking. Other risk factors include family history, certain workplace exposures, and long term urinary catheters.
One of the most common symptoms is blood in the urine, which is often painless. Other symptoms can include pain when passing urine, needing to pass urine more frequently, tummy pain, fatigue, or unexpected weight loss.
If symptoms are identified early, bladder cancer is often more treatable.
