It was a privilege to attend the launch of the Muslim Census report on behalf of BIMA. The evening offered a powerful reflection on the British Muslim community – its resilience, challenges, and immense potential.

The findings highlighted some stark realities, including persistent deprivation, widening inequalities, and a significant gap in healthy life expectancy. They served as an important reminder that structural inequalities have real human consequences and continue to shape health outcomes across our communities.
At the same time, the report showcased important strengths: a young population, a strong sense of British identity, and growing educational attainment, particularly among Muslim women. These findings point not only to challenges but also to significant opportunities for the future.
As one of those young Muslim women, I left feeling inspired to make meaningful use of the position I find myself in. As a healthcare professional and member of BIMA’s Community Health Offer team, I am reminded that advancing health equity is not an abstract goal, but a commitment being brought to life every day through collective action.
